This book is an overview of the ecology of Jackson Hole and surrounding region. It is written for people who will spend more than an hour or two there. It introduces the reader to the natural world of Jackson Hole and to the principles of ecology as they operate in the valley. I hope this treatment will meet the needs of beginners as well as advanced students of natural history and ecology who are new to this area. I have drawn upon many ecological studies that have been conducted in Jackson Hole and nearby over the last few decades. I hope this primer will help increase people's understanding and appreciation so that we can secure a healthy, spacious future for Jackson Hole.
